Vocational Skills Development And Continuing Passions (VSD&CP) Program

BHASSA TANZANIA is a youth-led non-governmental organization focused on delivering practical skills training and employability programs to young people across Tanzania. We aim to reduce youth unemployment by equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in the job market.

Since our founding in 2022, we’ve trained over 10,000 youth in areas such as technical skills, vocational trades, entrepreneurship, and soft skills development including life skills and sexual reproductive health. Our programs are designed to be accessible, inclusive, meaningful and aligned with real-world job demands.

Through partnerships with the government, private sectors, civil societies and communities, we offer hands-on workshops, BHASSA Learning Center (BLC), and mentorship that help bridge the gap between education and employment.

VSD&CP Program Description

This program is a youth-centered empowerment initiative that delivers holistic support to underserved and marginalized youth. It combines education, skills training, mental health services, and economic inclusion to create pathways to long-term independence and dignity. The project focuses on three pillars: Develop (building knowledge and practical skills), Empower (fostering confidence and leadership), and Create Opportunity (linking youth to jobs, entrepreneurship, and financial opportunities). We call it "DECO"!

VSD&CP Program Context

Youth in underserved communities continue to face significant challenges, including poverty, limited access to education, gender-based violence, and exclusion from economic opportunities. These challenges have been intensified by global crises, especially for single young mothers, survivors of violence, displaced populations and those living with disabilities.

This program aims to address both immediate needs and structural barriers by providing holistic support including education, skills training, mental health services, and pathways to employment or entrepreneurship.

VSD&CP Program Rationale

The design and implementation of this program was triggered by Tanzania Integrated Labour Force Survey 2020/21 from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which shows that, based on the National definition of unemployment, about 1.09 million youth aged 15 to 24 are unemployed equivalent to (44.2%), whereby 61.2% were female.

How Have We Gone So Far?

Through BHASSA TANZANIA, with support from USAID Kijana Nahodha Over 940 young individuals participated in hands-on technical and vocational skills development programs, learning valuable trades such as Beautification and Cosmetology, Designing, Sewing and Cloth Technology, Kitchen and Pastry, Poultry, Cake Making, Soap Making and Batiki Making. This program have empowered youth to gain practical skills that are in demand, providing them with better job prospects and entrepreneurial opportunities.
